Gary Marino
Former EVP/Chief Commercial Officer – PayPal
Gary has spent his whole career as an innovator in the payments industry. While working in the credit card division of two of the largest US financial institutions, Gary served in many roles including Chief Credit Officer and Chief Marketing Officer. It is there that he was an early innovator of many of today’s key strategies in financial services on use of big data and the opportunities of technology to help retailers drive new growth. In 2001, he co-founded BillMeLater to pursue his vision of an alternative payment experience. In late 2008, PayPal acquired BillMeLater for nearly $1B in what was the largest private acquisition of that year.
As PayPal’s Chief Commercial Officer, Gary lead the Global Sales & Marketing organization across the company’s brands and business units with responsibility for driving the company’s revenues, He lead the businesses global lending unit and the global teams that focused on expanding the value proposition of the PayPal brand internationally in both established and emerging markets, and growing PayPal’s position as the preferred online payment method for consumers and merchants around the globe.
A graduate of Syracuse University and Indiana State University, Gary is a board member of the Johns Hopkins Discovery Fund for research in rheumatology.
